Taggtool Database - When working with thousands of files it can be advantageous to logically group them into separate databases such as 'Marketing', 'Internal Documentation','Media assets'. A default database is automatically created for you the first time the application is run.
Datastore - A Datastore is a physical location on a hard disk where the taggtool databases are stored.
Shared database - Designating a database as a 'Shared Database' prevents users from tagging files which other users cannot access. For example it would make no sense in tagging a file which lives in my C:\ drive as other users will not have access to my C:\ drive and hence they will not be able to open the file from their computer. If you are planning on tagging files on shared devices such as NAS devices then I would recommend you always have your databases set as 'Shared'.
Local Mode - When running in 'Local Mode' the user has access to any database created in the local datastore i.e. any tags they create are stored on their computer rather than on the TaggTool server, no one else is able to see their tags.
Connected Mode - When running in 'Connected Mode' the user has access to any database created in the server datastore, each user connected to the server can see each other's tags and collaboratively tag files on shared resources such as NAS devices or shared folders.
Tag - A text based keyword used to help identify a file, folder or web page url. For example: budget, finance, 2011 are all valid tags.
