Development continues on Tagg version 2.1 - some new features being worked on at the moment include the importing of Windows keyword metadata attached to files on NTFS file systems using alternative data streams - in English this means that if you right click a file in Windows explorer and add keywords in the summary information panel then Tagg will pick these up automatically(if you wish).
I've also added a hashcode generator which calculates MD5 hashes and stores them in the database, this means that Tagg v2.1 will have much better automatic file resolution capabilities so if you move a file Tagg will be able to locate it and update the database automatically.
By the way, if anyone has java Swing experience and would like to help out on this project please drop me a line.
Regards, Phillip.

We are currently developing better integration with Windows file metadata, a feature is being tested which can search your computer for any jpeg images and MS Office files which contain keyword metadata (IPTC and XMP for techies). When Tagg finds such a file it can automatically add the file to your database if required.
Tagg will also keep this file metadata synchronized so you can leverage 3rd party desktop search tools such as Windows Search, Google Desktop Search and Copernic desktop search.
More information coming soon.

Hello, here's a quick update on what's coming in the next release of Tagg, we have added a cool 'backup' feature to Tagg which will copy all of your tagged files into a compressed archive which you can then burn on to a cd or dvd. The idea is that with one click of a button you can backup your important files including the Tagg database files so that you can restore Tagg with ease in the event of a harddisk failure.
We have also boosted general application performance and fixed some bugs, this new version should be released around the 16th May, sign up for our newsletter if you would like to be informed by email when the new release is available.
That's all for now, happy tagging!

A new version of Tagg has been released containing a brand new file browser which makes selecting files and directories much easier than before.
Another new feature we've introduced is the file resolver which can be found in the tools panel. In previous versions of Tagg, if you moved a physical file Tagg wouldn't know about it and so report the file as missing, with the latest version Tagg can now search your computer for any moved files and automatically resolve them keeping your databases up to date.
There are 2 ways to get the latest version of Tagg:
1) You can download and run the latest installer from the download page.
2) If you have a previous version of Tagg installed and are running Windows you can select the 'Check for updates' menu item under Tagg's program group via the start menu. This will automatically check for the new version and install it for you.
As usual if you have any feeback please send an email to support@taggtool.com.

Today I thought I'd outline some new features in the development pipeline, to start with I have implemented a neat file system browser which makes it much easier to locate and tag your files.
Here's a development screen shot:
As you can see, you can navigate the tree just like Windows file explorer - to select individual files or entire directories
you select the corresponding checkbox.
Another crucial feature of this system browser is that it visually tells you which files you have already tagged via a small tag icon
and highlighted foreground text color.
Another major area under development concerns the issue of moved or deleted files, a feature is being added which will tap into the operating system and synchronise your databases whenever you move or delete a physical file, more information on this will be provided soon.
Lastly, I'm introducing a new feature which will extract certain metadata from files and make it available for searching, for example the image plugin will extract EXIF metadata such as exposure time and focal lens length, all other plugins will extract relevant metadata as well.
That's all for now, thanks for reading - until I properly set up a blog with a comments system please send any comments you may have to information@taggtool.com.
Welcome blog - January 18th 2007
Hello and Welcome to the first blog post for Taggtool.com, my name is Phillip and I'm the programmer behind the Tagg utility.
The purpose of this blog is to provide you with a heads up on new features and developments in the pipeline as well to share hints and tips to help you get the most out of Tagg.
I developed Tagg in order to quickly find and launch files which lie scattered around my computer's hard disks. As well as searching for file names (which I can never quite remember) I thought it would be more useful if I could 'tag' labels onto my files and search for these instead, so instead of searching for 'axa123hghPol010306.pdf' I could search for 'insurance policy'.
So this is what Tagg has been designed to do, if you're fed up of navigating your way through yet another file explorer window then Tagg might just make your life easier!
If you're going to be tagging hundreds or even thousands of files, you can create separate databases so for instance you could have a 'Photo's' database for all your tagged pictures, a 'Podcasts' database for your audio and video podcasts and a 'Personal' database for your personal files such as word and spreadsheet documents.
As well as tagging and launching files, Tagg also provides integrated file previewing for images, audio files, compressed files, html files and txt files.
If you would like to try out Tagg, please download the trial version from our downloads page.
